The event takes place at The Theater in Madison Square Garden where Zayas is a perfect 7-0 and looking to remain unblemished. At stake, the two men will battle for the vacant WBO junior middleweight world championship. Here's the details you'll need to follow along.

Edgar Berlanga was originally thought to be heir apparent when it comes to Puerto Rican boxing royalty, but his career has fallen on hard times with a loss to Canelo Alvarez in 2024 and a KO loss at the hands of Hamzah Sheeraz earlier this month in New York.

With all due respect to Subriel Mattias, who just captured the WBC 135-pound title in a hard-fought battle against Alberto Puello on July 12, Zayas' popularity and star power seem to give him a higher ceiling.

Xander Zayas (21-0, 13 KOs), the 22-year-old from San Juan, will fight Mexico's Jorge Garcia (33-4, 26 KOs) for the vacant WBO junior middleweight world title TONIGHT at The Theater at Madison Square Garden.

In the co-feature, Brooklyn's Bruce "Shu Shu "Carrington (15-0, 9 KOs) will fight Namibia's Mateus Heita (14-0, 9 KOs) for the vacant WBC interim featherweight world title.

The ESPN-televised opener showcases second-generation superstar Emiliano Fernando Vargas (14-0, 12 KOs) in an eight-round junior welterweight tilt against Alexander Espinoza (20-3-1, 9 KOs).

Xander Zayas, the 21-year-old Puerto Rican prospect, is eager to make his mark on the world stage. He’s been training with Top Rank since the age of 16 and is ready to take on the challenge. ‘I feel like every camp is completely different and every camp you prepare differently, but throughout my whole career, Top Rank and my team have prepared me for this moment,’ Zayas said. ‘We always said that when we would fight for a world title, we would do it when we were ready to fight for it and win it. And this is the moment. Fight number 22 at MSG. It’s my moment to become a world champion.’

Jorge Garcia, the 33-year-old Mexican fighter, is no stranger to the big stage. He’s had his share of victories and setbacks, but he’s determined to make a statement in this fight. ‘I’m happy to have been given this opportunity to fight for a world title,’ Garcia said through an interpreter. ‘It’s something that I’ve always dreamed of ever since I started in this business. And now I’m only days away from making this a reality. I’m ready and I’m here.’
