GREENSTONE—The Municipality of Marathon has long held a close respectful relationship with Al Cresswell and CFNO; “your hometown sound”.

Recently Al had a conversation with special guest Shawna Grouette, co-op, OYAP and Experiential Learning Lead, for Superior Greenstone District School Board.

The discussion centred around how Superior Greenstone District School Board was “reimagining learning.” The key topic was the Board Experiential Learning Program headed by their program lead, Grouette.

According to the board, “Experiential Learning is the process of reflecting on an experience, both during and after the experience, extracting meaning from it, and then applying what has been learned.”

During the conversation between Cresswell and Grouette, she spoke about the important impact their experiential learning program has on students. She explained that, “It allows them to develop a deeper understanding of curriculum and its real-life connections. Students engage in education and career/life planning through exposure to a variety of careers and pathways.”

It became quite clear as Cresswell spoke with Grouette, that the program is crucial to future growth of student learning, but more so how passionate Grouette is about student success and experiential learning opportunities in skilled trades. She emphasized why students should explore career paths in skilled trades.

“The learning helps to develop global competency skills, support student well-being through academic and personal discovery, and to prepare students for transition to future Employment," Grouette said.

The radio feature on CFNO, also continues to demonstrate how connected Cresswell is with Marathon and the surrounding region. By offering these kinds of opportunities for community leaders to share what they do to make a difference in the lives of others, Cresswell shows how he has his thumb on the pulse of what’s happening in Marathon and the surrounding regions.
