Arson charge laid after Whitesand First Nation fire

A 38-year old man is also charged with assaulting a police officer

WHITESAND — A house fire in Whitesand First Nation, 235 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, has led to charges against a local resident.

Ontario Provincial Police said the incident occurred Sunday, July 20 at a local residence.

The fire was contained and extinguished by firefighters.

OPP said an investigator from the Office of the Fire Marshal was called in to assist with the case.

A 38-year-old man from Whitesand First Nation was charged with arson and assaulting a police officer.

The officer sustained a minor injury, but did not require hospitalization.
