SUMMER BEAVER – In the early evening of March 22, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) responded to a call for service at a residential address in that community.
Upon arrival, officers found two individuals inside the residence. One of the individuals appeared to have injuries consistent with a recent assault.
Through the investigation, police learned someone had attacked the victim, stabbing her with an edged weapon, inside the home. The property was also damaged during the alleged assault.
Both the victim and accused were known to each other.
The accused was taken into custody without incident.
While in custody, police learned the accused had a quantity of suspected cocaine, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.
As a result, a 33-year-old from Summer Beaver First Nation was charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, mischief, and drug trafficking.
The accused has since appeared for a bail hearing and was remanded into custody with a future court appearance date.
