Bearskin Director of Eastern operations sees future potential in Geraldton

Bearskin Airlines flew out of Geraldton for the first time Nov.1. Director of Eastern Operations was pleased with community support.

THUNDER BAY: Colin Head, director of Eastern operation for Perimeter, was pleased with the reception and support shown by the Geraldton community and industry partners during the launch of Bearskin’s air service. The event was greeted by members of the community, politicians, and industry partners.

The director of Eastern operations described the event as a great bench mark for the future of Bearskin Airlines and its hope to possibly expand the number of flights offered out of Geraldton.

“The inaugural flight ribbon cutting celebration was well received by the community with approximately 20 people there, politicians and industry partners. It was nice to see the support from the community,” said Head.

Head was very specific when asked if future plans to increase flights are in the works. “We initially offer flights three times a week to get an idea of what the appetite is for flights. If demand warrants it we will look at expanding the number of flights offered out of Geraldton,” added Head.

Bearskin Airlines passengers can also access link up flights with Air Canada to Toronto, once passengers arrive to Thunder Bay from Geraldton. In fact, all flights with Bearskin Airlines are under what Head called an “interline agreement” with Air Canada. Head explained what this means for passengers.

“All of the flights offered by Bearskin Airlines are under an “inter line agreement” with Air Canada. So, you can book your flight from Toronto to Geraldton by purchasing one ticket through a travel agent as if it were offered by one airline,” explained Head. “Baggage also gets checked at the time of booking. If there are any cancellations, passengers are protected and they’ll re-book another flight at no cost to the passenge,r on the next available flight,” said Head.

Head feels that this new service by Bearskin Airlines for Geraldton is also important for all industry in the Superior North region, especially for the mine and lumber company. “We also provide quick cargo service for any industry, for the mine and lumber company. If they need a part this can be flown there in less than three hours,” he said.

Bearskin Airlines will watch the demand for flights closely. As more passengers, book flights in and out of Geraldton, the frequency of flight service will be an option that the company is excited about reviewing.
