HEARST—Residents across the region have already begun feeling the heat from extreme heat warnings issued for their communities.
Porcupine Health Unit wants to help you “beat the heat” with some simple but helpful tips. They believe that it is important to have a plan to stay cook this summer, especially when participating in outdoor activities.
According to PHU, if your activity is in fact outdoors, try to enjoy this during a cooler part of the day and at a location which has cooling spaces available.
Here are some of their other helpful tips to staying cool:
- If you must be outdoors, try to limit your outdoor activity between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
- Exercise in air-conditioned places rather than heading outdoors.
- Choose a cooler outdoor location such as a tree-shaded area away from high traffic to avoid high levels of air pollution; or
- If one of these options is not possible, the activity duration and intensity should be reduced.
- Try to stay out of direct sunlight and take shade breaks frequently.
