Biigtigong Nishnaabeg Aboriginal Days 2022 a community effort

The Biigtigong Nishnaabeg First Nation Pic River community has come together to organize and plan amazing events for their annual Aboriginal Days, set to begin June 17, 2022.

Pic River—The community of Biigtigong Nishnaabeg, Pic River,  is very excited about celebrating their annual Aboriginal Days, set to begin June 17 with the “Rock the River” concert and run until June 18, with their 22nd Annual Fish Derby and the Pic River Pow Wow.

A great line up of events for all ages is set to take place that weekend.

Nicole Desmoulin, who has been the recreation coordinator for the community for 20 years, and is also  a youth worker, spoke about how the event is held yearly and is organized thanks to the efforts of individual departments that make up the Aboriginal Days committee.

The committee is made up of community volunteers. “Every department comes together to help organize one of the events featured during the Aboriginal Days celebrations,” said Desmoulin.

Desmoulin spoke about the Pow Wow being held in Pic River on Saturday, June 18. “The Pow Wow is organized and presented by volunteers who have the experience and knowledge for the Pow Wow. It’s the youth who utilize these programs and events the most," she stated.

Biigtigong Nishaabeg Aboriginal Days features events and activities such as:

  • Rock the River concert with performers Chris Krienke and Strawdawg, Back Forty, and the Hoolies at the Pic River baseball field.
  • 22nd Annual Fish Derby from June 5 to June 18, 2022
