NIPIGON—Students from Nipigon-Red Rock High School, took part in a Canadian Medical Hall of Fame virtual workshop earlie this month.

Nipigon-Red Rock’s Specialist High Skills Major students participated in the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame’s virtual workshop, Discovery Day in Health Sciences North.

During the day, students visited some exhibits. Many of them shared that their favourite was chatting with Kim from Ongomiizwin - Indigenous Institute of Health and Healing.

They eagerly listened to the keynote speaker who talked about her journey to medical school and how, “you have to love and trust in yourself”.

Ironically, right now the students are in meet-ups with other participants who are from Northern Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Nunavut. As a next step to this, will participate in their chosen workshops about specific careers in health sciences.

Nipigon-Red Rock staff mentioned that should others feel this event sounds interesting to them, that there with be a very similar event specific to Northern Ontario School of Medicine in May.

This event will be open to Grade 10 and 11 students, and if you would like to participate, contact or see Mrs. Scott-Marciski, at the school.
