THUNDER BAY – The number of active cases in the Thunder Bay district fell slightly Thursday, as health authorities reported 12 new cases of COVID-19, and 24 previously reported cases were declared resolved.
Despite the dip, the active case count of 122 remained at levels not seen since April in the district.
All 12 of the new cases involved individuals in Thunder Bay and the surrounding area. Six were attributed to household contact, two to other close contact, and two to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, while a transmission category for two others was still pending.
There were three district residents in hospital with the virus on Thursday, an increase of one from the previous day. None of those patients were reported to be in the ICU.
The health unit has reported 156 new COVID-19 cases so far in December, nearly surpassing November's total of 163 less than halfway through the month, and eclipsing the 26 reported in October.
