Charges laid after $60K stolen from business

GERALDTON-- On April 24, 2022, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Greenstone Detachment officers were notified of a fraudulent activity that had been taking place at a business on Main Street in Geraldton.

Further investigation revealed that an employee and member of the public had been stealing scratch and win tickets from the business and taking the winnings from the cash register. This had been taking place for over a year, with the total amount of stolen tickets and winnings amounting to approximately $60,000.

Ashley FORTIER, 35 of Greenstone was arrested and charged with fraud over $5,000, contrary to sec. 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC).

Kelly CHISHOLM, 36 of Greenstone was arrested and charged with theft over $5,000, contrary to sec. 334(a) of the CC. The accused faces an addition charge for fraud over $5,000, contrary to sec. 380(1)(a) of the CC.

Both of the accused will appear before an Ontario Court of Justice in Geraldton on September 22, 2022.
