Community CAO retirement celebration shows appreciation and gratitude

The Township of Schreiber gathered to celebrate and thank CAO Donna Mikeluk as she retires from a position that she has held for over 20 years.

SCHREIBER—The Township of Schreiber held a retirement party to honour their CAO Donna Mikeluk, Friday, June 17, at the Schreiber Public Library.

City of Schreiber Mayor Mullins and council along with Schreiber residents gathered on Friday to celebrate and wish Donna Mikeluk, township CAO, all the best, as she begins a new journey as a member of the retirement club.

CAO Donna Mikeluk has held the position of Schreiber CAO for more than 20 years. During that time she faced many challenges, and succeeded in making many good things happen for her community.

Mayor Kevin Mullins, shared fond memories of Donna, as he also took part in these celebrations on Friday. “Donna has worked for this community for 20 plus years and during that time she has never been denied a grant that she sought to gain for community projects and initiatives,” said Mullins. “She’s responsible for the Little Sprouts Garden in Schreiber,” added Mullins.

The garden is a community-based project that facilitates community involvement, in that residents can get a “gardening plot”, that they then can use to plant their own plants and vegetables.

The mayor spoke about a time which challenged council to consider closing the Schreiber Public Library. Their reasons were that it was believed that the community no longer needed the library because of the advanced technology that exists today; and that people have computers and other technology-based equipment that can be used to access information.

Mullins added how Mikeluk, “never quits,” he said. She faced this challenge making sure the library remained open especially for seniors and the very young who may have the computers, but need to be taught how to use them; an important role that the library played.

Mikeluk was instrumental in the planning and development of many important initiatives and projects for the community of Schreiber. In fact, one other crucial project was Schreiber Media, which she was also the key driving force behind to ensure that it became a reality.

Her retirement celebration served to reaffirm the impact that she has had on her community, be it for individuals, businesses and fellow council members as well as the important role she has played in a community in which she is beloved and respected. They wish her all the best as she begins a new journey.
