THUNDER BAY — The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reports a sharp drop in COVID-19 cases.

TBDHU on Monday morning reported the caseload in its catchment area has fallen to 71, the lowest total since Nov. 26 when there were 68 active cases.

Although 22 new cases were confirmed over the weekend, 66 previous cases were resolved.

All the new cases involve residents of the city or communities just outside the city.

Eight are the result of household contact, six are the result of other close contact, and four involve travel outside Northwestern Ontario.

The health unit reported one fewer case in hospital than on Friday, which means two individuals are currently receiving treatment in hospital.
