COVID-19 claims another life in the district

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 12 new cases and with 21 previous cases now resolved, the active case count is now 114.

THUNDER BAY - The number of active COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay District has decreased, but one more person has been lost to the virus.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit is reporting 12 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. With 21 previous cases now considered resolved, the active case count dropped from 122 on Thursday to 114.

Of the new cases, three are considered the result of household contacts, three are from other close contacts, two are related to travel outside of Northwestern Ontario, three have no known exposure, and one is still pending.

Thunder Bay and surrounding communities account for 11 of the new cases with one being detected in a district community.

The health unit is also reporting one more death as a result of the virus, bringing the total number of deaths in the district to 68.

There are no additional hospitalizations though three people remain in hospital receiving treatment. There are no patients currently in the intensive care unit.  

The cumulative total of COVID-19 cases in the district since the pandemic began now sits at 3,749.
