COVID-19 outbreak declared at Nipigon district memorial hospital

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit, (TBDHU) and the Nipigon-District Memorial Hospital, (NDH) jointly confirm a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared.

NIPIGON—A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared in Nipigon’s Long Term Care Home. Both TBDHU and NMH confirmed that this outbreak has occurred as a result of two or more confirmed cases of COVID-19.

NMH indicated in their news release that their outbreak management team has completed a thorough assessment of the situation in collaboration with the TBDHU. Further measures will be taken to manage the situation. They ask that residents only visit the hospital and long-care home if it is absolutely essential.

The hospital continues to take every precaution possible to mitigate the transmission of the virus in the facility in accordance with the public health guidelines and recommendations.

Madison Boudreau, chief nursing executive and LTC administrator, Nipigon District Memorial Hospital indicated that, “We will continue keep their staff, residents, patients, visitors, community partners, and the public updated as the situation unfolds.”
