COVID-19 outbreak declared at Terrace Bay hospital

Outbreak was declared on Wednesday, with health care group CEO saying two cases have been confirmed

TERRACE BAY — A COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at Terrace Bay's hospital.

The North of Superior Health Care Group and the North Shore Family Health Team announced the outbreak at the McCausland Hospital on Wednesday.

North of Superior Health Care Group CEO Adam Brown said there were two confirmed cases at the hospital.

Outbreaks are declared in hospital settings when there are two or more cases.

In response to the outbreak declaration, the hospital will be limiting visitation in the acute and chronic care wings to four per patient or resident.

The health care group said other outbreak management measures, including increased infection prevention and control practices and surveillance testing will be implemented. All patients and staff working in the hospital will undergo surveillance swabbing protocol.

The health care group also said it is working with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage the outbreak.
