TERRACE BAY—On July 25, 2022 the North Shore Family Health Team and the North of Superior Healthcare have reported that the COVID-19 outbreak declared at Wilkes Terrace Long Term Care Home, on July 20, has spread to the chronic and acute care wings.

Of these reported positive cases, an additional employee, three residents of Wilkes Terrace and two chronic care patients have now also tested positive for the virus.

The NSFHT has indicated that these individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are currently in self-isolation. In addition, all other residents and patients of McCausland Hospital continue to be asked to stay in their rooms to limit their contact with others and to reduce the risk of virus transmission.

In terms of the NOSH update, to prevent any further spread if the virus, Wilkes Terrace and the McCausland Hospital continues to restrict visitors until further notice. The update also indicated that all residents and patients, including NOSH staff who work in Wilkes Terrace and The McCausland Hospital, will be closely monitored for symptoms and will undergo surveillance swabbing protocol.

Other protective measures such as increased infection preventions and control practices have been put in place. NOSH will continue to work with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit to manage this out-break, and protect patients and staff.
