COVID positivity test rate falls in Thunder Bay district

The rate of 12.5 per cent is close to the provincial average reported Monday.

THUNDER BAY — The COVID-19 positivity test rate in the Thunder Bay district has dropped almost to the Ontario average.

According to data published Wednesday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, 12.5 per cent of all COVID-19 tests conducted during the week of Mar. 13 to 19 were positive.

That's a significant drop from the 19.7 per cent positivity test rate the week before.

Data published by the Ministry of Health shows the province's daily positivity test rate on Monday was 12.2 per cent.

TBDHU reported 51 new confirmed cases since Monday, and a current active case count of 138.

The health unit said 25 people are in hospital with COVID-19, including seven in intensive care.

On Monday, there were 24 COVID patients in hospital, nine of whom required intensive care.
