THUNDER BAY – Another COVID-19-related death has been recorded in the District of Thunder Bay, bringing the total number since the pandemic began to 85.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit on Friday announced the latest death, along with 55 new confirmed cases of the virus, a number likely a lot smaller than the true total, given the change in availability of PCR testing in the province.

The district also crossed the 10,000 case mark, a number also likely exponentially smaller than the true number of cases in the district since the first one was reported more than two years ago.

There are currently 127 confirmed cases in the TBDHU catchment area.

The health unit also reported five more people hospitalized with COVID-19 than the 20 it reported on Wednesday, though the intensive care unit patient count remained at nine.
