JELLICOE — A traffic complaint led the OPP to pull over a driver going almost 200 km/hr in a traffic stop.

After receiving a complaint on Aug. 3 around 1:41 p.m., Greenstone OPP tracked the suspected vehicle on Hwy 11 near Jellicoe.

Officers observed the car travelling at an extremely high rate of speed, clocking it going 199 km/hr on the radar gun.

When officers pulled the vehicle over, they determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and was arrested.

The 38-year-old man from Thunder Bay was charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, stunt driving and obstructing the licence plate.

The driver automatically receives a roadside licence suspension as well as the car being impounded.

The accused was released from custody and has a future court date in September.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug-impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If anyone suspects that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
