Drug bust at the Attawapiskat airport

Nishnawbe Aski Police Service has arrested two women after an investigation into a suspected drug trafficking operation.

ATTAWAPISKAT FIRST NATION – After receiving a tip of two suspected drug traffickers arriving at the community airport, officers with the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) quickly identified and located the suspects on Tuesday, Jan. 9, at about 3 p.m, according to a NAPS release.

The suspects were immediately taken into custody without incident.

The release stated that police seized a quantity of suspected oxycodone pills, suspected methamphetamine tablets, cash, and three pounds of cannabis.

As a result, a 30-year-old from Attawapiskat was charged with possession of methamphetamine, while a 41-year-old from Attawapiskat was charged with possession of oxycodone and cannabis.

Both appeared before bail court on Jan. 10; however, the 30-year-old was remanded into custody to wait for a future court date, and the 41-year-old was released with conditions to appear before the court at a later date.
