Drug trafficking investigation leads to two arrests

Charges have been laid following a search warrant in Longlac.

LONGLAC – A pair of Longlac residents are facing drug-related charges following an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, Greenstone OPP, Greenstone OPP Community Street Crimes Unit, OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and Nishnawbe Aski Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on Wednesday, Feb. 9 on a residence in Longlac.

As a result of the search, police seized a quantity of drugs including crystal meth, cocaine, crack cocaine, oxycodone pills, suboxone pills and methamphetamine tablets with an estimated street value of $40,000.

Police also seized other items consistent with drug trafficking including in excess of $9,000 in cash.

As a result of the investigation, Natasha SHAGANASH, 36, of Longlac and Catherine HARDY, 40, of Longlac have been charged with two counts of possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of failure to comply with release order.

Both accused made a brief court appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay, Ontario by video on Feb. 10 to answer to the charges and were remanded into custody.
