THUNDER BAY – The District Social Services Administration Board has launched a call for nominees to represent unincorporated areas on its board of directors.

The agency oversees social services related to housing and homelessness, child care, and Ontario Works across the Thunder Bay district, wielding a budget of roughly $100 million a year.

The DSSAB has launched a call for candidates for the board position ahead of an Aug. 19 nomination deadline harmonized with timelines for the upcoming municipal election.

Candidates must be Canadian citizens at least 18 years of age and own or rent property in an area without municipal organization and not part of a First Nation, or be the spouse of such a person.

The board position will be elected for a four-year term by residents in unincorporated areas on the day of the municipal and school board elections on Oct. 24.

Other DSSAB board members are appointed by municipal councils.

Anyone interested can learn more about the position and how to file for election at the DSSAB’s website.

The district includes a large number of unincorporated areas, from Armstrong to Nolalu to Shebandowan (a full list and map is available online).
