MARATHON — The transition to high school is going to be a bit smoother for French students in Marathon this upcoming school year.

École secondaire Cité-Supérieure (Cité-Supérieure Secondary School) recently announced they will be offering a Grade 7 and 8 program to Marathon students starting this September.

École secondaire Cité-Supérieure has been serving the Marathon community for over 25 years.

In a statement provided to Dougall Media by Conseil scolaire du Grand Nord, principal Tania Reid Watson said sharing the building with older students is a fantastic opportunity for mentorship and community-building – in addition to experience working with more advanced materials.

“They will experience opportunities to learn in a real science lab. They will also participate in activities with older . . . students, making their transition that much easier,” she said.

She also alluded to the intimate structure of classes and the sense of independence that Grade 7 and 8 students will feel thanks to how the atmosphere at École secondaire Cité-Supérieure is cultivated.

“They will benefit from small group instruction in a family-like, caring, atmosphere for learning. With no school bells at our school, this fosters a sense of responsibility,” Watson said.

“Furthermore, the Grade 7 and 8 students at Ecole secondaire Cité-Supérieure will participate in whole school activities with older students, instilling a sense of community and camaraderie within our school. They will become mentees within the school community, allowing them to learn and share with their older peers.

"Most importantly, they will continue to grow in a French environment, enabling them to gain a greater understanding of their culture and language skills.”

An information night is being held for parents and students on March 5 at 5:30 p.m.

All who are interested in learning more about the new Grade 7 and 8 programs at École secondaire Cité-Supérieure are invited to attend.

Those in attendance will have a chance to meet staff and receive a tour of the school.

For more information, people are encouraged to contact the school at 807-229-0557.
