SUPERIOR NORTH -- With windchill values below - 45C, Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for Fort Severn and Peawanuck.

The government weather agency states that minimum temperatures ranging from -30C to -32C with wind chill values near -45 is expected Wednesday morning, however, temperature and wind chill values will moderate this afternoon.

Similar extreme cold conditions are expected again Wednesday evening into Thursday morning.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Dress warmly. Dress in layers that you can remove if you get too warm. The outer layer should be wind resistant.

Synthetic and wool fabrics provide good insulation.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.
