Extreme cold weather in effect for parts of the region

Environment Canada is urging residents in the region to bundle up this morning.

SUPERIOR NORTH – Environment Canada warning those in the region to bundle up.

The government weather agency says a period of very cold wind chills near -45 is expected to continue in Peawanuck, Fort Severn and Webequie until late Friday morning.

An extreme cold warning has also been issued Friday morning for Manitouwadge - Hornpayne area with wind chill values near -40.

Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes.

Cover up. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

Extreme cold warnings are issued when very cold temperatures or wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia.

  • Peawanuck
  • Fort Severn
  • Webequie
  • Manitouwadge - Hornepayne
