Firearms charge laid in impaired driving investigation

The 66-year-old man faces multiple charges after being arrested for impaired driving, and having a firearm found in the vehicle.

GERALDTON — A 66-year-old man faces multiple charges after being arrested for impaired driving, and being found with a firearm in the vehicle.

Provincial police with the Greenstone detachment responded to reports of a possible impaired driver on Kuengs Road, about 20 kilometres west of Geraldton, on Wednesday night.

Officers found the vehicle abandoned near the water's edge of Wild Goose Lake. An unsecured firearm was found inside. Officers also found the driver.

The accused, who is from Port Colborne, Ont., is charged with two impaired driving counts, as well as one count of careless storage of a firearm.

He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court next month.
