TERRACE BAY -- As a result of recently announced COVID-19 restrictions that took effect as of Wednesday, Jan. 5, many recreation facilities have had to cancel programs, including Terrace Bay’s Community Centre.

After speaking with Michelle Malashewski, community development assistant for the Township of Terrace Bay, who organizes programs and oversees COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions as they are updated by the Ontario Government, indicated that as of Jan. 5, 2022, all recreation programs have been cancelled.

This impacts on a recent Township’s Facebook post of a program which was to be held by Brenda Figliomeni, known as the “Cardio Fitness Class”. This was to run through the months of January and February, 2022. Malashewski said that, “ a bunch of residents had already signed up for this,” as the deadline was to be Jan. 6.

Michelle also indicated that the township office is only open for “essential services” for residents, and stated that she is “in the process of preparing an announcement to indicate when the “Cardio Fitness Classes” will be postponed to.”

The only other service that the township was able to keep open was the local Library, which can remain open at 50 per cent capacity.

Ford’s recent decision to close all gyms and fitness centres has certainly been felt not only across the province but also across Northern Ontario regions.
