Forest fire closes Highway 631

WHITE RIVER — Highway 631 is closed between White River and Hornepayne due to a forest fire.

Two fires have been burning in the White River area with one — Wawa 03 — has grown to 3,900 hectares.

That fire had been moving north along the highway on Monday.

An update from the Township of White River said the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has brought in additional heavy helicopters to help fight the fire.

Municipal officials have said the fires do not pose a threat to the community.
