Forest fire smoke is continuing to impact air quality across Northwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for most of the region, including north shore areas, Greenstone, Manitouwadge, Hornepayne, White River, Wawa and the remote north.

Smoke plumes from wildfires in northeastern Ontario and Quebec have moved into the air, bringing very high levels of air pollution, Environment Canada said.

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour," the special air quality statement noted.

Environment Canada said conditions are expected to improve Monday night into Tuesday.

Environment Canada noted that wildfire smoke can be harmful, even at low concentrations. People are encouraged to take measures to reduce their exposure to the smoke.
