HORNEPAYNE—Throughout the global pandemic, many people around the world including Canadians lined up to receive the vaccine meant to help prevent serious consequences of COVID-19.

Often many were not clear on what the goal of vaccines in general was. Porcupine Health Unit (PHU) is offering a simple explanation to help clarify this.

According to PHU the goal of vaccination is twofold. “The goal is not only to prevent infection but also to prevent serious consequences of infection,” explained PHU. They highlight the fact that those who have been sick with COVID-19 and were able to manage their symptoms at home, should commend themselves for choosing vaccination.

In their opinion, vaccinated individuals have prevented themselves from a visit to the ICU, or even more seriously, saved their own life.

Those who have been vaccinated not only offer health benefits for themselves but also to those around them. They are protecting those vulnerable family and friends who are an important part of their lives.

In addition, PHU explained booster doses, saying that, “Dose numbers for booster doses may vary depending on an individual’s primary series or specific circumstances. The majority of Ontarians, received a two-dose primary series (Moderns, Pfizer, and. Or AstraZeneca), so their first booster (Moderna or Pfizer) would be considered their third dose, and a second booster would be considered their fourth dose.”

Consequently, PHU reminds everyone to get up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations, especially at a time when we continue to hear that in some Canadian provinces the cases of COVID-19 are on the rise.

Those who still have questions about the vaccine or booster doses or to get up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations should visit: visit phu.fyi/covid-vaccine.
