TERRACE BAY -- The 75th Anniversary celebration will have it all; history, education, physical activity, self care, and family fun, not to mention memories and the honouring of the people who have served the community

Start your day off with coffee and muffins from 10 a.m. to noon at the Michael King Hall, sponsored by the Superior Senior’s Club. The Seniors will also be hosting the “Brunch with the Boys” on Saturday morning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Visit the Terrace Bay Community Centre to view the 75th Historical Display and pick up a brochure that will guide you on a tour through interesting highlights of the town, then head on out with your camera for the Selfie Scavenger hunt. Drop in to the library for their giant used book sale, open all weekend, and join local authors, Dr. Nancy-Angel Doetzel and Susan Faw on Thursday at 1 p.m., where they will be discussing writing and getting published.

In need of some self care? Join several certified instructors every day for gentle Yoga and Tai Chi sessions, or ramp it up a bit with Spin or Zumba classes. Rather party it up whilst getting fit? Join the free swim pool party on Thursday or keep the energy going at the Zumba party with DJ, NDLESS on Saturday!

There are two golf tournaments at the Aguasabon Golf Course: The 3-3-3 Golf Tournament takes place on Thursday, and the AGC Men’s Open is on Saturday and Sunday.

On Thursday night, starting at 7 p.m. the vibe will be totally retro at the Michael King Hall, where DJ Dbl D will be providing the mood for an evening of nostalgia and socializing. Although entry is free, there is a cash bar for this adult event.

You’ll want to be at the Simcoe Plaza on Friday at 2 p.m. for the official 75th Anniversary opening ceremonies, where the 50th anniversary Time Capsule will be opened, and the contents put on display for all to see. Following the opening ceremonies, the Terrace Bay Memorial Plaque will be unveiled. This plaque will be a permanent dedication to Terrace Bay residents who have served in the Canadian Military in the protection of the rights and freedoms of our country.

The day is filled with exciting things to experience; Shop at the Artisan market and sidewalk sale, imbibe at the Slate Island Brewery beer tastings, indulge in some yummy treats from the local food vendors and test your Terrace Bay History in the trivia challenge for a chance at winning a tour to the Slate Islands with Evans Fishing Edge. The kids will have a blast. There will be children’s inflatables, clowns, science projects and much, much more.

Starting at 5:30, three bands ‘The Sensational Hot Rods’, ‘The Hoolies’, and Tommy Milestone Horricks, will take the stage to entertain you as you enjoy the adult beverages in the Beer Gardens. For the kids, two movies, ‘Trolls’ and ‘Jurassic Park’ will be shown at the TB Skate Park, starting at 8 p.m., courtesy of North Shore Church.

The celebrations continue on Saturday, with a fun day of events planned at the Terrace Bay Waterfront, showcasing their new pavilion and boardwalk. The band, ‘Back Forty’, and DJ Dbl D will brighten the day with music while you partake in treats from the food vendors and beer garden. An ‘Open Mic’ event, where folks can strut their musical, dancing, comedic or other talents, will take place starting at 2 p.m.

Have some fun in the sun with beach games, children’s inflatables & Zorb balls or go shopping at the Artisan market!  You can try out kayaks and paddle boards, go on a boat tour, or take on the three-kilometer guided tour to Danny’s Cove. Later in the evening there will be bonfires on the beach and fireworks display at dusk. Catch the free Beach/Community Centre shuttle bus every 20 minutes between 1 p.m. and 2 a.m.

The 75th Closing Ceremony on Sunday is really a beginning of sorts; it marks the Grand Opening of the Terrace Bay Waterfront and Pavilion. An outdoor church service will take place there at 11, followed by the official opening ceremony and the burial of the 75th Time Capsule, into which everyone is welcome to put a little piece of their history. Food will be served courtesy of Parks Canada and everyone is welcome to attend.

For more information, check out the celebration’s Digital Brochure, or the Township website.

Come and spend some time walking down memory lane as the folks of Terrace Bay commemorate the past and celebrate the future at the 75th Anniversary Celebrations, Aug. 18th to the 21.
