Greenstone fire and emergency services wants pets to be included in emergency plans

Local Fire Departments have long been promoting that having a safety plan ready in the event of a fire or emergency can help save lives. The Municipality of Geraldton highlighted the fact that too often our pets are forgotten in this plan. They gave its residents access to information that can help save their pet's lives.

GERALDTON—The Municipality of Geraldton supports a program meant to keep pets safe.

It shared a program initiated by the Ontario Association of Fire Chiefs in partnership with the Humane Society and Ontario SPCA.

OAFC, the Humane Society and Ontario SPCA, have launched their emergency preparedness campaign. In it, they ask pet owners to sign up to receive a window decal designed to inform first responders, about the types and number of animals that live in the house.

Pet owners were reminded that when in an emergency, seconds count and alerting authorities that pets are inside could help save their lives. In case of a fire or emergency, you want to let first responders, know that you have pets in your home, and the window decals are designed to help you do this.

The free window decals can be ordered by visiting: https://ontariospca.ca/emergency-preparedness/ to receive yours today. The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society website offers more information about this important program.
