NEWS RELEASE
ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE
***********************
GREENSTONE - On August 31, 2022, the Greenstone Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) launched a new tool against crime and is asking the community for their help. The Digital Assistance Program will allow community members with surveillance systems to provide a few details about themselves and their systems to be used by police when responding to calls for service.
By gathering this information, police will be able to conduct a more thorough investigation in less time and increase the likeliness of charges and convictions against those responsible for crimes in the community. By working together, the community and the police can deter criminal activity, improve outcomes, and make our municipality safer than ever before.
By providing your information to police, you are not required to give police access to your surveillance system. The database will only store secured contact information and will be reviewed during an investigation to see if any video evidence is available. If available and relevant, the owner of the video surveillance will be contacted and asked if they wish to assist police by providing a copy of the digital media.
