HEARST: The Claude Larose Recreation Centre rehabilitation project is progressing nicely. The Township posted updated before and after photos on their Facebook page for residents to see.
This initiative has been providing upgrades to its ice plant system. The contract was awarded to Cimco Refrigeration Inc., who is nearing completion of the project, and as a result the Township was able to share the progress completed thus far with its residents.
When the Recreation Centre was first opened in 1979,there were two ice rinks in the arena. These were known East ice and West ice. You can also find two halls, a used clothes depot called Depot Gamelin, a snack bar and a swimming pool called Stephane Lecours.
The centre was named after Claude Larose, who was the first resident from Hearst who was able to go on to play for the National Hockey League (NHL). He played for the NHL from 1965 to 1978.
The community is excited about these needed upgrades and will provide further updates as they become available.
