Highway 17 closed east of Wawa

Winter weather the reason given for the lengthy closure.

WAWA -- Highway 17 is closed between Wawa and Highway 556 in Heyden, Ont.

The Ministry of Transportation announced the closure on Saturday morning, updating the closure at about 1:30 p.m.

All lanes are closed and there is no indication of when the highway will reopen.

Sault Ste. Marie has been doused with more than 80 centimetres of snow, making roads impassable. Motorists have been stranded in some spots for hours.

Highway 11 was closed for several hours between Longlac and Cochrane due to a collision.
