Highway 17 collision leads to careless driving charge

A car plummeted down a rocky embankment on Highway 17 on Sunday.

MARATHON — A Marathon resident was lucky to suffer what police describe as minimal injuries after his car left the road and plunged down an embankment on Sunday.

Ontario Provincial Police said the incident happened about 8:45 a.m. on Highway 17 near Coldwater Township.

Photos posted by OPP show the badly damaged sedan resting at the bottom of a steep rock-filled slope.

The driver was taken to hospital by Superior North EMS paramedics.

The 43-year-old man was subsequently charged with careless driving.
