HORNEPAYNE — The proof of vaccination requirement has been lifted at some Hornepayne facilites.

On Tuesday, Gail Jeremy, CAO/Clerk, for the Municipality of Hornepayne announced that effective immediately, the requirement for proof of vaccination to enter into the Hornepayne Community Arena and the Hornepayne Fitness Facility is lifted.

With that announcement, for users of these facilities, wearing of a mask is still a requirement.

Jeremy indicated in this announcement that their Emergency Community Control Group has met and is cautiously optimistic about the future. She pointed out that cases of COVID-19 in the district are beginning to come down, but she indicated that the risk of spread still remains.

Continued personal protection measures such as masking and social distancing provide a significant amount of control over spread, and as Jeremy stated that, “we ask that you be mindful of this when in our facilities and in your everyday interaction with others."

The Municipality still requires proof of vaccination for municipal employees, councillors, firefighters, contractors, consultants, and volunteers.

It is hoped by her and the Municipality that they can all soon get back to some level of normalcy.

This announcement comes after the Municipality decided not to follow the Ontario's lead with lifting proof of vaccination requirements, in late February.
