HORNEPAYNE -- Mayor Cheryl Fort posted a notice on Sept. 6, for residents of Hornepayne informing them of the completion and ribbon-cutting ceremony for their newly resurfaced runway and new LED lighting system.
In the notice Mayor Fort, spoke about the importance of this project and how it will now provide safe and reliable access to medical transfers, charter planes, businesses and investment opportunities.
Funding for the Airport Runway & Terminal Refurbishment Project, was made possible by the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, (ICIP), Rural and Northern Stream with contributions from the Federal Government of $2,907,908.40 and the Provincial Government of $1,615,343.12 and a contribution from the Township in the amount of $323,262.48.
“Safety is paramount to ensure we can have successful and meaningful lives where we live. The upgrades to our airport ensure that now and into the far future we can safely be transported when required to medical facilities, plus it allows our community to explore further investment opportunities for our region. Today, is a happy day for our community! Thank you to our partners at the Federal and Provincial Governments for the significant investment into our lives,” stated Mayor Cheryl Fort.
Other components of this project still to be completed includes the airport fuel tank and pumping system replacement, as well as upgrades to the terminal building including electrical, technological, doors and windows.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the airport in the coming weeks, to celebrate this milestone for the Municipality of Hornepayne.
