THUNDER BAY— Dilico Anishinabek Family Care has named its new chief executive officer.

Succeeding Darcia Borg, Natalie Paavola officially took over on Friday.

“Stepping into this role and being able to carry the vision forward is an honour and privilege to me,” Paavola told Newswatch on Monday.

A proud Anishinaabekwe from the Robinson Superior Treaty area, Paavola has over 25 years of experience in leadership and community development.

“As a longtime employee at Dilico Anishinabek Family Care, to step into the role as chief executive officer I am both humbled, excited and proud to be stepping into this role,” she said.

Paavola said her prior work experience at Dilico will be extremely valuable and her knowledge of policies and procedures, partnerships and cultural background have equipped her for the new position.

“Being a director of health and wellness previously, I'm able to use everything that I've learned here,” she said. “I'm aware of the programs and services that we have built out here within Dilico, so that definitely helps me in my new role as CEO going forward."

Paavola mentioned that she has no plans to change direction of the agency for the moment and does want to continue Dilico’s vision for the company, promoting the healing and well-being of Anishinabek people.

“It ultimately impacts the people using the services, so I really want to focus on building out the relationships and partnerships,” she said. “Not just within the city of Thunder Bay but within the communities that we serve.”

The company current operates with between 500 and 600 employees. Its main office is based on Fort William First Nation.
