Kapuskasing hosted its “Home is Home” event this weekend

Kapuskasing Econimic Development Corporation (KEDC) hosted their “Home is Home” event this weekend at Camp Ongrandi.

KAPUSKASING—The Township of Kapuskasing KEDC proudly hosted their “Home is Home” event this past weekend. The weekend camping event brought together newcomers from as far away as Morocco.

Newcomers, visitors and residents were welcomed by Councilor Guylaine Scherer, who greeted people from a variety of places, including Ukraine, Morocco and France.

KEDC supports and participates in this event meant to unite newcomers and local community residents together for a weekend. The weekend event focuses on activities that promotes inquiry, discovery and the development of new friendships.

The event which took place at Camp Ongrandi which facilitated many experiences that allowed newcomers to engage and meet new people from places such as the Ukraine, Morocco and France.

Built on the shores of Lake Remi, Camp Ongrandi offers a wide range of attractions, including its beautiful surroundings.

Councilor Scherer greeted all visitors with a welcome on behalf of Mayor David Plourde, and the rest of city council. “On behalf of mayor Dave Plourde and council, I am happy to be here to welcome all of you,” stated Councilor Scherer.

Speaking both in French and English, Scherer indicated how pleased she was to be a part of this event. “We are really excited to be a part of this event, a true Canadian cultural experience, in North Eastern Ontario,” stated Scherer.

Scherer encouraged everyone to take advantage of the activities that were offered all weekend, to discover all that Northern Ontario has to offer residents and visitors alike, “including the warm welcome of our community because our home is your home," added Scherer. She closed her welcome by asking everyone to make themselves at home.
