SUPERIOR NORTH — A notable increase in calls were logged by provincial police last week.

During last week's reporting period, OPP responded to 652 calls. This represents a 40 per cent increase in incidents tracked by the OPP from April 14 to 20, compared to the previous week, which had only a slight increase from previous reports.

Responding to calls in Marathon, Nipigon, and Greenstone, officers were kept busy issuing a total of 109, 95, and 85 eTickets, respectively.

Police laid 273 charges during this period, representing a significant increase of almost 60 per cent compared to last week.

Almost all of the charges laid by OPP were related to Highway Traffic Act violations.

The OPP is also reminding the public about its online reporting system, which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident.

The citizen self reporting system was rolled out across the province in 2014 to report certain minor incidents and crimes.
