SUPERIOR NORTH — An increase call was noted by provincial police for the Superior North region last week.

With detachments in Nipigon, Marathon and Greenstone, officers responded to 472 calls during the reporting period of May 19 to 25.

This represents an eight percent increase in reported incidents compared to the previous week

Requests for police escorts, property checks, eTickets and R.I.D.E programs were the top categories of police activity.

Across those three detachments, Greenstone reported the most charges laid, with 93, while Marathon and Nipigon had similar numbers at 69 and 64, respectively.

Combined, all three laid a total of 226 charges during that time period.

The OPP is also reminding the public about its online reporting system, which can be used as an alternative to having an officer attend a scene for a minor incident.

The citizen self-reporting system was rolled out across the province in 2014 to report certain minor incidents and crimes.
