Live fire training this past weekend in Red Rock

Live Fire training, for the Red Rock and Nipigon volunteer fire department, took place this past week-end in Red Rock.

RED ROCK—There was a lot of excitement this weekend in Red Rock as the Red Rock and Nipigon volunteer fire departments participated in Live Fire Training, that took place from July 7, to July 10, 2022.

The training event took place at the Red Rock fire hall and was made possible by the many hours of collaboration and planning between Fire Chief Ryan Pitre, the Township of Red Rock, the Ontario Fire College and the Office of the Fire Marshall.

The training required that the volunteers spend a significant number of hours in a classroom as well as in what is described as a mobile, “Live Fire Training” unit. There, the volunteers were able to gain real life scenario training.

The collaborative group who planned and put on this training believed that this training is important and needed in order to ensure the safety of their volunteer fire fighters and the citizens they serve. According to the information posted by the Township of Red Rock, “This “Live Fire” training is a compliance piece that will go towards the legislated mandatory NFPA 1001-Firefighter Level 1 & 2 Certification.”

During the duration of this training, the community may have seen some smoke coming from the area in which this training took place but there was no reason for alarm as it just demonstrated the fact that their volunteer fire fighters were training.
