Live fire training to underscore first responder safety

Smoke may be seen during another live fire training exercise by Greenstone firefighters.

GERALDTON—The Greenstone Fire and Emergency Services are conducting Live Fire Training exercises in the Evac Building, located on 306 First Ave. NE in Geraldton. The training is scheduled to talk place Wednesday, Nov. 2, between 7:00-9:00 p.m.

According to the Fire department's notice, that this type of training is crucial to ensure not only the safety of first responders but the community as well. Firefighters will be given the opportunity to experience real flames, extreme heat, limited visibility and thick smoke during the various components of this training.

Fire & Emergency Services Fire Chief Jeff Lipskie, believes that “The training of our fire fighters is imperative to their safety as first responders, to emergencies within the communities they serve.”

Residents in the area should be aware that smoke may be seen during this time, but should not be alarmed.

The training for the fire fighters is imperative to their safety as first responders to emergencies within the community they serve. This training is part of the Government of Ontario’s plan to offer firefighters access to the latest in training, in their own communities, a program that was introduces in 2021.

The Greenstone Fire and Emergency Services is made up of approximately 70 dedicated volunteer Fire Fighters that operate out of four stations located in Beardmore, Geraldton, Longlac and Nakina.
