Longlac health centres recruiting health care professionals

With the current health care crisis still spreading across the country, regional health centres are focused on attracting health care professionals to their communities.

LONGLAC—NorWest Community Health Centres are launching a recruitment campaign in order to attract a new physician to join its Longlac inter-professional health care team.

The NorWest Community Health Centres will begin to recruit for a full time physician to join its team in the spring of 2023 as the physician position will be vacant in spring 2023

“Given the shortages of physicians in rural communities across the country, we are starting the search for a physician to serve the Longlac community now. We are confident that we will attract a candidate who can continue to provide excellent care to clients served in the community of Longlac,” says Juanita Lawson, CEO of NorWest Community Health Centres.

It continues to be proactive in order to ensure rural communities have access to the best primary care and professionals. They’ve announced that the organization has successfully hired a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for its Longlac site. Elizabeth Sears, will begin her role as NP in August, 2022 and will work rotating weeks on site in the community as well as work virtually.

According to their announcement, the Centres shared that, Sears graduated with a Masters of Nursing (NP Program) from the University of Saskatchewan and a Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) Program from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She is originally from Summerside, Newfoundland and has worked as a Registered Nurse in various rural and remote Manitoba locations in the fields of Emergency, Stroke and Cardiac.

Lawson, continued by stating that, “We are pleased to have recruited Elizabeth as a new Nurse Practitioner for Longlac. Elizabeth is relocating from Winnipeg and understands the local health and wellness issues facing northern people and communities. She is passionate about providing holistic care to underserved and marginalized populations. I know she will be warmly welcomed by the residents of Longlac.”

Longlac is a bilingual English-French community located approximately a three-hour drive from the City of Thunder Bay.  The community is home to 1,800 residents.
