WAWA — Superior East OPP has closed a portion of Highway 11/17 due to poor weather conditions.

According to the Northeast OPP Region Facebook page, Hwy 17 between Wawa and Batchawana Bay, Hwy 101 between Wawa and Chapleau, Hwy 101 between Chapleau and Timmins, and Hwy 129 between Chapleau and Thessalon are closed.

Currently, Environment Canada is reporting easterly winds up to 80 kilometres per hour gusting through the area.

However, the wind storm should dissipate this afternoon.

Drivers should expect rain or snow to continue through the day.

Periods of blowing snow may reduce visibility, which can result in poor road conditions.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
