MANITOUWADGE — Manitouwadge ratepayers will see an adjustment to their municipal water and sewer rates as council has decided to adopt a flat-rate billing program.

Council agreed that a 2.5 per cent decrease in total water and sewer levy for single residential users is favourable.

Therefore, 59.1 per cent of single residential properties will see a quarterly levy increase of less than $25.

Multi-residential and commercial properties, excluding the three highest volume properties — the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, Manitouwadge High School, and Manitouwadge Recreational Centre — will have a modest increase in their water and sewer rates.

Mayor Jim Moffat acknowledged the concerns of people affected by the increase, but overall, he feels that he has heard from residents and is confident in his decision following the turnout of concerned citizens at the public meeting held on Monday, and the survey results on the municipality website.

“I think that is definitely the way to go,” said Moffat.
