MANITOUWADGE -- In celebration of the 100th year of Canada’s horticultural sector, Manitouwadge has declared 2022 as the Year of the Garden, which will highlight the important contribution of gardeners and organizations, horticultural professionals and local businesses which contribute to garden culture.

Manitouwadge is committed to be a garden-friendly town; they believe it has helped residents to face the challenges of the COVID pandemic, and that it is important to the lives of their citizens in terms of health, quality of life and environmental challenges. There is already a thriving, volunteer-run community garden available to residents, and the township participates in the annual Communities in Bloom project.

At their regular meeting, the Township of Manitouwadge councillors have set aside June 18, the Saturday before Father’s day, to be recognized as Garden Day as part of the legacy of Canada’s Year of the Garden, and hopes everyone will participate in this healthy, safe activity in 2022.
