MANITOUWADE—The Municipality of Manitouwadge Fire Department is offering their residents a program to keep them safe in the event of an emergency.

It is known as CodeRED, and is free to acquire and use. The MFD describes it as a high-speed mass notification system designed to keep an individual safe during a time of an emergency. It allows for the sending of “time-sensitive messages to you via text, email, landline, cell phone, RRS, social media or a mobile application push".

The Department further explained that, “CodeRED alerts will display as originating from 866-419-5000 on your caller I.D. and that if you miss the message details, you can also dial the number back to hear the complete message”.

They offered examples of typical CodeRED messages. For example, “CodeRED will be used for emergency or time-sensitive situations to keep you informed. Some examples of instances are Boil Water Notices, Wildfires, Floods, Evacuations Notices or Missing Person/Child”.

Residents interested in this free service can follow these simple steps to sign up for CodeRed Alerts: Go to www.manitouwadge.ca and follow the CodeRED link to register.
