MANTIOUWADGE -- The Manitouwadge Volunteer Fire Department is helping keep the community warm and safe by providing helpful tips.

This week, the fire department is sharing winter storm tips to keep families warm and safe this winter season.

So far, the fire department has reminded residents how crucial it is to have a steady supply of heat in case of power outages.

As the weather gets colder, fire officials are stressing the importance of staying warm.

On top of dressing in layers and huddling under extra blankets, you can hang darker blankets over windows to draw in heat.

Keep doors and windows closed, and use towels to block drafts around them. If necessary, move to your basement, which may be more insulated by the ground.
